About IcyFog
IcyFog is a vape store based in Zadar, Croatia, specializing in disposable vapes, vape liquids, pod systems, and vape accessories. In addition to its eCommerce store, the company also operates a physical shop in Zadar and targets both the Croatian market and tourists visiting the city.
Because paid advertising options are heavily restricted in the vape industry, IcyFog decided to focus on SEO as its primary channel for attracting new customers and increasing brand visibility.
My Role
I was the lead SEO specialist responsible for developing and executing the overall SEO strategy for IcyFog. I was involved in the project from February 2024 to April 2025.
The Challenge
When IcyFog launched in early 2024, the business faced several major obstacles:
- The website was completely new and had no existing online visibility
- The vape niche is highly restricted, making Google Ads, Meta Ads, and other paid channels difficult or impossible to use
- The Croatian vape market is highly competitive yet very niche, with several established competitors that have been operating for more than 10 years
- Local competition in Zadar included smaller vape shops located in the Old Town that attracted tourists and competed primarily on lower prices
As a result, IcyFog needed to build visibility from scratch and compete against businesses with significantly stronger domain authority and brand recognition.
Goal
The main objective was to increase IcyFog's organic visibility and generate consistent website traffic through SEO. Specifically, the goal was to:
- Build organic traffic from zero
- Increase rankings for product and category-related searches
- Attract local customers and tourists searching for vape products in Zadar
- Improve the website experience and increase the likelihood of conversion
Strategy
Instead of relying on paid advertising, we built a long-term SEO strategy focused on eCommerce SEO and local SEO.
1. On-Page SEO Optimization
We started by optimizing the website's most important pages, including product and category pages. This included:
- Rewriting page titles and meta descriptions
- Improving heading structure and keyword targeting
- Optimizing category pages around high-intent search terms
- Creating stronger internal linking between products, categories, and blog content
2. Unique Product Descriptions
Many vape stores use the same manufacturer descriptions across their websites. To differentiate IcyFog and improve its rankings, we created unique product descriptions for key products. Each description was written to:
- Include relevant keywords naturally
- Highlight product benefits and features
- Answer common customer questions
- Improve search engine visibility while also increasing conversion potential
3. Content Marketing Through Niche Blog Articles
To build topical authority and attract additional traffic, we created highly specific blog content focused on vape-related topics. The articles were designed to educate users and guide them toward relevant products. Examples of content topics included:
- Differences between disposable and refillable vapes
- Best vape liquids for beginners
- How to choose the right vape device
This content helped the website rank for informational searches and supported category and product page rankings.
4. Local SEO for Zadar
Since IcyFog also has a physical store, local SEO played an important role in the strategy. We created and optimized pages targeting location-based searches such as:
- Vape shop Zadar
- Vape Zadar
The goal was to attract both local residents and tourists searching for vape products while staying in Zadar.
5. UI/UX Improvements
To support both SEO performance and user experience, we improved the website's UI and UX. This included:
- Better navigation and category structure
- Cleaner layout on product pages
- Improved mobile usability
- Easier access to related products and blog articles
These changes made it easier for users to find products and complete purchases.
Results
After 3 months, IcyFog achieved significant growth in organic visibility:
- Increased from 0 to 600 organic clicks per month
- Improved rankings for both product-related and local search terms
- Built visibility in a highly competitive niche without using paid advertising
- Established a foundation for long-term SEO growth and future eCommerce sales
